As the oldest historically black high school in Duval County, Raines High School has been shaping lives through the power of education for generations. During that time, we’ve maintained a tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, community involvement and so much more. Today, our students have an unparalleled range of options for building an extraordinary future that starts the moment they step through our doors.

Why Parents Love Raines

Raines High School brings some of our city’s best educators to our campus. Many of our teachers hold graduate degrees and everyone on our team from the principal to the administrative staff to the teachers has a deep passion for helping students grow and thrive. Our early college courses and dual enrollment programs enable students to work on their high school diplomas while getting college credits for free, so that they graduate with a significant head start toward their college goals. It also provides them with the skills required to be successful once there. Our Alumni Support Group and partnerships with multiple colleges can help students obtain a range of scholarships.

Why Students Love Raines

There’s truly something for everyone to love about Raines. We’re a magnet school twice over, for both information technology, and performing and visual arts, and that doesn’t even begin to cover the interests our students can pursue. We have three levels of Chinese language classes, culinary arts, and Army JROTC. Our spectacular chorus and band regularly take home first place trophies, and our athletics department boasts seven state titles and 35 alumni who later moved on to play for professional teams. It’s no wonder our school spirit is so high.

What Your Children Will Learn

Students at Raines High School learn, first and foremost, to question the bounds of what they perceive as possible. Once they realize they have nearly limitless potential, they’re able to learn everything from fundamental subjects to a diverse array advanced placement and honors classes. What path your teen follows at Raines depends largely on them (and you), learning about subjects they’re passionate about. Whether the next step is college, military, or a career, with their hard work, and our encouragement and training, they’ll be ready! We aim for every student to graduate prepared for what’s next and able to succeed after high school.

Why We're Unique

There aren’t many places where you can find computer science honors students lunching and studying alongside dancers, future chefs, track and field standouts, and Army JROTC members bound for West Point Academy. Although the interests our diverse, our student body is incredibly tight-knit. The sheer variety of talents and drives blossoming together on the Raines campus is a spectacular thing to behold. In addition to giving each student the support they need to pursue their own dreams, the Raines environment also encourages an openness to new experiences, and an appreciation for the skill and hard work of others. Don’t take our word for it. See for yourself! Schedule a tour of Raines or contact us now to learn more!

We are building character, leadership and teamwork in our students. Those are qualities they can use for the rest of their lives. – James Ross, Alumnus
